Our Marketing Team
David Gowel | Founder, President & CEO
Dave founded Clearly Creative in 2007. His marketing experience includes high-end event management for two Four-Star Generals commanding all U.S. Army Forces in Europe while serving in Heidelberg, Germany. These events included foreign and U.S. congressional members, military leaders and heads of state. He also conducted media relations as the Executive and Operations Officer in MIT’s Army ROTC Department, marketing the U.S. Army brand to the students, parents, and faculty of MIT and Harvard University, as the latter’s official department liaison. Dave’s leadership experience includes the U.S. Army Ranger School, serving in Iraq as an Armor platoon leader, and teaching leadership at MIT as an Assistant Professor to undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students. Dave earned his B.S. at the United States Military Academy at West Point and is currently earning his M.A. at Harvard University.

Julie Salickram | Chief Marketing Consultant
An entertainment and event marketing specialist with a focus on social media marketing, Julie's career spans media, venues and print. She began her career working in promotions for radio stations WBCN, Kiss 108 and WZLX in Boston. Her venue experience includes overseeing Marketing Communications at New York City's legendary Webster Hall nightclub and record label, and more recently as the Director of Marketing for the Dharma group in Boston, including Lucky Strike, Jillian's and Gypsy Bar. In addition, Julie also freelance writes for many online and print publications. She graduated with honors from Northeastern University with a BA in Communications, minor in English writing.

Bill Nichols | Marketing Consultant
Bill has been a marketing and sales practitioner and consultant for over 25 years. He has consulted to firms across a broad array of industry sectors and has served in senior marketing, sales, and strategic planning roles with leading financial services companies including John Hancock Funds. His expertise covers most marketing and sales disciplines, including product management, brand building, pricing, distribution, sales management, and new business development. Bill also serves on the board of Community Action Partners, a Boston-based volunteer organization that provides business consulting to needy non profits. He earned a BS degree from the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Basil Harris, Jr. | Marketing Consultant
Basil brings over 25 years of marketing and product management experience to his client engagements. He has held senior management positions at global firms including Novell, CMGI/Engage, and Progress Software as well as at innovative and fast-paced startups like Visible Measures, Vovici, and Enterprise Mobile. With more than two dozen software product and services launches to his credit, Basil has delivered significant value across the entire spectrum of marketing and product management services – from strategic planning and requirements development to the detailed work of preparing and delivering new and next-version products to the market. Basil holds an honors BA degree from the University of Toronto and an MEd from the University of New Hampshire.

Karina Potere | Marketing Consultant
Fully bilingual, Karina has worked in advertising and marketing in the Hispanic market for eight years. As a freelancer she performed proficient equivalent translation services from English to Spanish, and vice-versa, for a variety of clients including Quaker Oats, Six Flags, Nestlé, Astros, Kellogg’s and MADD among others. Her retail experience includes launching and managing a new Käthe Wohlfahrt store, a nationwide German boutique chain in Grafenwöhr Germany. During that time she served as liaison between German and American corporate offices, bridging the culture and language gap between these two entities. Karina earned her B.A. at the University of Texas at Dallas and is currently earning a Masters of Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma.

Rosalie Spatz | Marketing Consultant
While working in Australia, Rosalie has focused her career in online marketing, partnership development and project management. She began her career marketing for the largest aggregator of travel activities in Australia and New Zealand, GoDo. Her focus was split between partnering with the largest travel content websites and online brand marketing initiatives including SEO, SEM, affiliate partnerships, eNewsletters, banner advertising, and radio. In addition, Rosalie’s experience expands to project managing digital strategy and initiatives for various industries including Borders (bookstore) Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, STA Travel, Choice Hotels, Victoria Racing Club and Sportsgirl (fashion retail brand). She graduated with honors from The George Washington University, School of Business with a BA in Marketing.

Martha Richardson | Marketing Assistant
Martha has experience in the fields of event planning, marketing, and public
relations in the financial, insurance, music and marketing industries. Her
event planning experience ranges from corporate conventions to philanthropic
silent auctions. Her marketing experience includes marketing campaigns for
Bentley University’s Panhellenic Council as well as intricate team driven
marketing plans for a Boston-based music event company. She has written blog
postings and press releases, has participated in strategy brainstorming
sessions, and has developed in-depth, comprehensive press packets for
increasing awareness and positive perception of various organizations.
Martha earned a BA from Bentley University with honors in Information Design
and Corporate Communications.

Christy Schmidt | Marketing Assistant
Christy began her work for Clearly Creative as an intern in the summer of 2009. Now a marketing assistant, her experience has allowed her to learn about the marketing industry and to put her writing, organizational, and creative thinking skills to use. She is an active member in the Public Relations Student Society of America as well as her sorority, where she has held two leadership positions and hopes to obtain more while she is at school. She graduated from Bishop Feehan High School in 2007 and will graduate from Elon University in 2011 with a BA in Strategic Communications and a minor in Business Administration.

Meagan Kelly | Marketing Assistant
Meagan has experience in marketing, event planning, and public relations, with a special focus on and interest in social media marketing. She has worked for the nightlife/entertainment company Lucky Strike Entertainment in Boston as well as publishing company Cengage Learning. In these roles, she has written press releases and marketing copy for events and product launches; planned, organized, and overseen events; and, expanded the social media presence of each company. Meagan graduated from with honors from Northeastern University with a BA in Communications in 2008.
